The Maritime Organisation for Eastern, Southern and Northern Africa (MOESNA) wishes to celebrate with the African Union and the entire continental maritime fraternity for the progress made in the ratification of the Revised African Maritime Transport Charter, 2010.
This instrument was adopted on 26th July 2010 in Kampala, Uganda with the vision of harmonizing maritime polices across the continent, galvanize industry collaborations, guide on implementation of international instruments, promote maritime research, and most importantly providing continental maritime governance.
Coming into force of this pivotal instrument required 15 ratifications and much as it has been a little longer than expected the focus on it didn’t wane. It is also monumental that the country, Uganda from where the instrument was adopted is the same country that propels it into force by being the 15th party state to ratify on 15th July 2025.
The moment of the 15th depository of ratification has got the continental maritime industry counting down to 30days for this epic Charter to come into force.
MOESNA congratulates the African Union, celebrates this achievement, commends every country that ratified the instrument and joins every stakeholder who has played a part in advocating for the enforcement of the Charter.
We can only look forward to a brighter continental maritime industry as we aim towards our 2050 goals and beyond.
